Adult beginners are always welcome to come and see if karate is for them. There is absolutely no restriction in terms of prior experience, age or fitness. You are more than welcome to come along and train (or watch) on Monday or Thursdays. All the details of our sessions and their location are on the ‘Training’ page on the website.
We don't run a separate beginners class. What we do, is to make sure that any new people get a few introductory, small group, sessions taken by a senior grade in the club. Once they have got the hang of the initial basics they are usually ok to join in the main class. Our sessions are structured so that we normally do the warm up and some basics all together and then the class splits and the lower (and higher) grades get instruction tailored to their needs. This system has worked pretty well at the club. Obviously the more often beginners train the quicker they start to get the hang of things.
The first session is free. There is no rush to buy a gi, or a license immediately. We would rather that beginners come enough times to see if this is what they want to do, and then when they are pretty sure that they want to commit to karate they can get a gi etc. Wear tracksuit trousers and a t-shirt/sweatshirt for the first few sessions.
Children are also welcome to train with the club. Under 16’s have their own sessions on Thursday evenings from 6.15. As space is limited at this venue, please ring the instructor, Kieran Shore on 01761 417255 or 07979 702818 to see if there is space for your child.
If you have any further questions, please contact the club.
